Still working on this image, still got quite a bit to do before its complete but I'm currently balancing working on this as well as a number of different images as well as my Halloween costume and couple of classic lolita skirts based on Fragonard paintings.

This character is dressed in Hime lolita (or at least she will be when finished) fashion which is a Japanese sub-style of the fashion trend Gothic lolita which I have been enamoured with since I was about 16 years old (along time ago :l), which is in no shape way or form related to the novel "lolita".

The perspective is based on a game called "be richer" which was in the clients brief it was a challenge but also fun :)

Here is my latest 3D piece, I started work on it before penguin rush (PR) and had to stop work on it while I sorted the artwork for PR. I hopefully will be able to continue on with it now. Since I don't have a lot of 3D work in my portfolio I need to get my arse in gear really :D (external hard drive died with all the screens of my work...winning ^_^;;). I am more then a little bit obsessed with hippie buses :)

Penguin Rush Project

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been working on a project named "Penguin Rush" which is an independent video game, being developed for the iOS and browser platforms. I was hired to do the environment artwork and user interface originally but was then asked to produce the characters and also the animations (which was fun but a also a challenge ;D my 2D animation skills were slightly rusty ^_^;;). I was very happy to be working on this project as I have never designed graphics for any of the iOS platforms before as well as having a super short deadline 1 month for the entire job.

Since I have been given the go ahead I am posting some of the concept art and an early mock up of the menu screen (fonts have now been altered)

The client had a very detailed idea of how she wanted both the characters and the environment to appear as well as the interface and icons. Therefore I used her idea and kept to a limited colour scheme so that the look she wanted was not lost in the backgrounds. She also gave me a logo which she wanted to be kept throughout the design (I was a tad relieved as typography is not my favourite subject :D).

The most recent image I have been working on since completing work on the "Penguin Rush" project. This illustration has sat in limbo for a month so I'm glad to be working on this again as I rarely leave pictures unfinished for long.

The colour scheme has been giving be a lot of grief as the original composition featured a more looney tunes/taz-mania colour scheme (aka it clashed ;D). After adding the characters(original it was only going to be a landscape) I felt the the colour scheme hid the characters so I altered it to the tan colours. I'm happy with the colours now as we have settled our differences :)

I love the idea of really cheesy cliche characters and a cowboy used car salesman is high on the list :) I'm not quite sure who'd buy the car behind him (possibly the my little ponies lol) I don't really know much about cars, well expect for Hippie buses (I have an unhealthy obsession with them)

This illustration came from a sketch I drew of a rather unhappy looking chappy in the centre of Leeds back in March. I'm not quite sure why he became a park maintenance guy but hey the colour scheme is nice :)

I have a ton more of sketches of the wonderful citizens of Leeds so expect more soon

Hobs Concept work

As I said in a previous post I was incharge of the design of the "Hobs" game so with the aid of the producer (jessica Wong) I created a detailed map of the entire mansion layout. So that we were able to plan the storyline for the design document.

British folk creature sketches: Barghest

Here is another British Folk creature, It has many names depending on which county you live in, since I grew up near yorkshire I've always known it as the barghest. Its probably one of my favourite folk creatures mainly because its a black dog and reminds me of my lovely dog Digby haha :)

Since I completed the 2D design stages of the module I went on to the 3D stages. Here are some renders of the model w.i.p and also the completed model in the 3ds max interface. Im quite happy with the way the character turned out as I have never tried to build anything as anatomically realistic. If I were to continue work on this character I would probably redone the textures as I didnot have a huge amount of time to work on them.

After completing the preliminary design stage, I began to produce a high quality piece of concept art of the chosen design. This image was produced in photoshop and took around 10 hours to complete. Unfortunately I was not able to put as much energy into the image creation as I would usually as I was suffering from swine flu at the time, which is a tad disappointing but I am still happy with the results :).

Here is the first part of my 3D character design module from university. The brief was to design and build a 3d character. I decided to go with a musketeer as it would stand out from the usual sci fi/ horror character which university student normally create. She went threw a number of different variations before I was completely happy with the character concept.

Well this will be the first of many sketches which will be added to my sketchblog, creating a digital sketchbook showing the progress of my ideas, skills and well any random concepts which have the misfortune of being jotted down.

The first is a concept for a platform game based on british folklore (a major influence on alot of my work) where our young protagonist is teleported in to a folk realm via a fairies' daisy circle. She must complete the various themed levels to find her way home. This is a screenshot of a demo level I created in flash for my games design degree, while it was short and fairly basic it captured the look & feel I was aiming for.

While the idea is quite cliched I was happy with the concept as it gave me the chance to experiment with a variety of different art styles. I decided to go with a style based on shadow puppets as I was inspired by a shadow puppet show I had taken part in as a child. I believe that it suits the game themes well, I am hoping to develop this more in the future.
